When getting artwork or a logo designed, it is extremely important to have different file formats of your design. You will need to re-produce your artwork, whether it be for marketing purposes or to increase brand awareness and not having the right file can cause problems and cost you money.
Your artwork will first be created in a design program (e.g Illustrator, CorelDraw) and will start out as a vector image. Once your vector image is created, it can then be saved as any file format.
To transfer and keep it as a vector image, it will need to be saved as an .ai (Illustrator) or .eps file. .pdf’s can also be reliable depending on the user.
It can be confusing to know all the different file formats and their uses, especially if you don’t use them often. The easiest and most important thing to do is to ask your designer to provide you with a number of different file formats so you are prepared for anything!
Some important things to remember:
When artwork is transferred to different computers, make sure all text is outlined, not all have the same fonts.
Keep a note of what fonts were used in your artwork.
You cannot turn a bitmap image into a vector image (i.e. saving a .jpeg to an .eps file will not turn it into a vector).
Keep your file formats in a safe place and know where they are.
Vector v’s Bitmap
A vector image is made up of a series of paths that have a start and end point, with points (nodes) and shapes in between. A vector image does not lose it’s quality when scaled in size and the design can be edited at any time.
Types of vector files: .ai (Illustrator), .eps, sometimes .pdf’s depending on the user.
A bitmap is a digital image composed of a matrix of dots and the cannot be edited. When a bitmap is scaled in size, the pixels become more apparent and the image becomes distorted (see below).
Types of bitmap files: .jpeg, .png, .gif

Your magnets will last a lot longer by following these simple steps. You’ll get maximum impact and will look as good as the day you brought them.
Your magnet is designed to be put onto a flat surface. If placed over any concave areas or protrusions your magnet will not function properly.
Make sure there are no air pockets or moisture between the magnet and the surface you are placing it on. All four corners must be flush with the surface. Any edges lifting may result in the magnets falling off.
When re-positioning your magnet, completely remove from surface and re-position. Do not try and slide it off and make sure you remove using the sides and not the corners.
Clean your magnets regularly using a mild detergent and a soft cloth, dry using a soft cloth or air dry. Do not use scouring pads or harsh chemicals.
Long term outdoor use may result in fading from the sun’s UV rays. When not in use, keep your magnets stored flat and in a clean, dry place. The side of a fridge or filing cabinet is a perfect spot. Do not store heavy objects on top of or against the magnets.
In cold weather your magnets may become stiff, so avoid bending them when positioning. Always make sure they are fixed on the vehicle before driving.
When applying your shiny and clean magnets, make sure the metal surface is clean and dry from dirt and grease.

Signs are everywhere! We drive past them, we see them on the road and we see them on the street. There are so many signs that we actually forget how important they are for your business. Signage is like a silent salesperson, it works 24/7, 365 days a year and they get the job done. Whether you’re a new business or an established one, signage plays an essential part in your business growing. It is one of the best cost-effective marketing tools there is and will pay for itself many times over.
What can signage do for my business?
Increase brand awareness
Promote products & services
Increase sales & impulse buying
Set you apart from your competitors
If you think your signage isn’t doing any of the above, it’s time to have a look and see how it can be more profitable for your business.
Old and out-dated
Is your sign faded, cracked or peeling? Do the fonts and colours yell out the 90’s? Having out-dated signage can be a killer for business, it can seem tired and lifeless and can be discouraging for customers.
A badly designed sign can be quite ineffective and visually unappealing. Is it demanding your attention? There are lots of different design elements that go into creating a sign to make it effective and graphically stimulating.
“It is the combination of parts and how they relate to as a whole, that determines the effectiveness and quality of a sign.”Mike Stevens
Can you see your sign as you drive down the street? Do your customers see your sign as soon as they walk in? The placing of signage is just as important as the sign itself. Why spend good money on signage if no-one can see it. Stand back from your business and look to see if your signs are visible from different angles.
